FAQ

Heated delivery is not new, and while other systems have faded away, RediHeat remains strong after 20 years.

RediHeat® Delivery Food Bags

The system is simple: A strong, thin plate, acting as a thermal storage device, is secure inside a durable, insulated thermal bag. The element is connected to standard 120V power, and it heats up to 180F in a few minutes. Food is kept warm inside the bag, and when the driver is ready to go, the power cord is disconnected and left behind. The heat stored in the solid element is given up very slowly, allowing food to be delivered hot for up to 45 minutes.

The System

What value does RediHeat provide my food service delivery operation?

  • Brings confidence that your food will arrive at a remote location as if delivered fresh from the oven.
  • Certain bags act as a holding oven between baking and delivery, saving equipment cost.
  • Allows a safety net for inexperienced drivers, eliminating potential lost business.
  • Expands delivery territories, increasing profitability of operations.
  • Increase brand awareness at off-site events when using a logo bag.

Who manufactures the RediHeat system?

RediHeat has been sewing the pizza and food delivery bags since 2003. All of the bags and heaters are proudly made in Cleveland, Ohio.

Why is RediHeat less expensive than other heated delivery systems?

Because, from the start, RediHeat balanced the needs of the customer with cost. Simplicity of design eliminated unnecessary components and their cost.

How many RediHeat units do I need to run my operation?

You will know best. Use them just like you would ordinary insulated bags. How many bags are you using today? You can always add more as business grows. Keep in mind that each driver may well be using 2-3 bags per 15-45 minute drive. RediHeat also offers 5-pie and 10-pie systems to fit your different needs.

Do the RediHeat units need to be arranged in any specific way?

Arrange them in a manner that best fits with your operation’s layout, workflow, and driver capacity. For best performance, keep the flaps closed, the unit plugged in even when empty, and DO NOT stack bags on top of each other while powered.

What do I plug these units into to power them?

RediHeat units run off normal 120V, 208V, or 240V AC power, found in any ordinary wall outlet. Plug them in directly or use the appropriate power strips. No power transformers, filters, or other peripheral equipment is required. If using power strips, RediHeat recommends no more than 6 units on a 15 amp outlet or 8 units on a 20 amp outlet. Plugs for appropriate voltages available for markets outside of the United States.

How long does the system take to heat up?

Initial cold start requires 8-12 minutes to reach maximum temperature. For the remainder of the day, the element retains residual heat and is back to delivery temperature in about 6 minutes.

Is there an indicator when the unit reaches delivery temperature?

No, this would be a feature that adds significant cost to the product, but has limited utility. Again, this product is fully heated and ready to use within minutes; after it reaches temperature, the solid-state heating element holds it steady, waiting for use.

How many amps does each heater draw?

Each heater draws 1 to 2.00 Amps. Use caution not to overload 15 or 20 amp circuits.

Can I leave the units plugged in all the time?

You will get more productivity from RediHeat units if you keep them plugged in during operations. They will always be ready to go, and you can keep pizza piping hot inside them even if a driver is not immediately ready. These bags should be unplugged and turned off with the end of operations each day.

How much does it cost to power these units?

5 cents per day per unit, as determined in testing using $0.053/KWH as energy cost. Each unit will use less than 1 KWH per day if it is never unplugged during the course of that day.

When should I put pizza into the bag?

As soon as it is boxed. When still plugged in, the bags act as your holding oven until disconnected for delivery.

What temperature will the pizza stay at inside the bag when plugged in?

The heating element maintains 180°F . The answer also depends on what temperature the pizza is when it is put into the bag.

What temperature will the pizza stay at after unit is disconnected for delivery?

Within 10 degrees of its power disconnect temperature for 45 minutes.

Heating Element

Is the bag’s fabric being heated directly?

No, the bag is a normal, premium-quality pizza bag, and is not electrically conductive. Inside the bag, there is a heating element that connects directly to the power cord and heats up. When it reaches temperature, you can disconnect the power and it remains hot.

Where is the heating element?

Enclosed in a pocket at the bottom of the bag, secured by a Velcro strip fastener.

Is there a temperature control on the heating element?

Yes, the solid state heating element is the control. The element will self-regulate its temperature. More power will be applied upon heat-up and will be reduced once the bag is at temperature. The system is UL recognized for food heating.

Does the heating element open?

Do not, under any circumstances, try to open up the element. Doing so compromises the safety and performance of the unit. If you have any issues or concerns, return the element directly to RediHeat for immediate replacement.

How strong is the cord attachment to the heating element?

The strain relief is rated for 35 pounds for UL197.

How long is the power cord?

The cord that extends from the outlet to the external connection on the bag is 6 feet.

Will the cord melt in the hot bag?

No, it is agency safety rated.

Why is the cord from the element attached to a cinch inside the bag?

It has been reported over the years that one of the biggest nuisances of previous corded systems is the pig tail connector hanging outside of the bag. They get stuck in doors, or can be damaged if exposed. This design was meant to keep the cord in place and eliminate these problems.

Bags

Are the bags used with this system different?

The bags are high-quality pizza delivery bags; made of 1000D nylon and insulated throughout. They have a special compartment to hold the heating element properly.

What are the construction materials used in the bag?

  • 1000 Denier Nylon Outer Material
  • 210 Denier Inner Nylon Material
  • Heavy Duty Polyester Binding
  • Rugged Molded Handle
  • Marine Grade Vinyl Window

Are these bags insulated?

Yes, they use insulation on all sides, including the flap.

Do these bags breathe?

Heat stays locked in because of the insulation. But, nylon wicks moisture out, limiting internal condensation. The heat inside also helps minimize moisture buildup.

Can I use my own bag or a different bag with RediHeat plate?

No, our commitment to performance, warranty, and as a system manufacturer all hinge on using the components we provide. The design is by RediHeat, with explicit considerations for working in conjunction with our heating element.

Can I get a logo on the bag?

  • Yes, a minimum order of 12 bags required.
  • Set up is a one-time charge of $25 if you supply a vector art file.
  • Silk screening (one color only) is $7.00 per bag.
  • Lead time is 7-14 days once artwork is approved.
  • 5Pie, 10Pie, and Food Delivery Bag systems have a 6 bag minimum, for 1 color logo, each bag has two logos.
  • Design charges are $60 per hour if art needs to be created.
  • Please call 888-556-2024 x103 for exact pricing and details.

Can I wash the bag?

Yes. We recommend hand washing or wiping down with a damp cloth. If you choose to wash the bags in a washing machine, you must first remove the heating element and close the front flap to connect the Velcro hook and loop. The bags can then be tumble dried. It is important to note, however, that the bags were not designed for frequent machine washing. Also, any screen printing may be degraded during machine washing.

How many pizzas does each bag hold?

Our bags are designed to hold a minimum of 2 16-inch pizzas or 2 18-inch pizzas quite easily. Internal height is 5.25 inches, so 3 pizzas boxes may be possible, depending on box height. RediHeat offers two larger size bags in 16″ and 18″ sizes that will hold up to 5 and 10 pizzas. We can also address your special requirements through custom sewing.

Safety

Are the systems UL listed?

Yes, UL197 listed
Is there any safety issue when the heating element stops working?
When the element reaches the end of its life, it will fail in the mode of not heating up; a fuse will trip or the thermostat will remain in the open position; both events will cut the circuit, and the unit will not heat.

Will I burn my hand inside the bag?

We recommend that the only thing you put inside the bag is pizza. Human touch is more sensitive to heat felt on a conductor, like aluminum, than to heat felt on an insulator like wood, or the material that the heating element is constructed from. Additionally, there is a layer of nylon over the heating element. Use caution and commonsense.
